More Information

EquiTeam Support Services uses the EAGALA model when providing Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) services. EAL is a hands-on experiential process that allows natural interaction between humans and horses. There are endless ways to apply this approach both personally and for overall human development.

People treat horses the way they treat people, and the same communication patterns used to gain cooperation with people are also used with horses. The difference is that horses always act the way they really feel and people often hide their true feelings. Horses have the innate ability to sense people's true feelings and react to that energy. It is impossible to hide the human soul from the senses of the horse.

  • • The EAGALA model uses a team approach. A Mental Health Professional, Equine Specialists, and the horse(s) will be a part of the team to assist in supporting the client.

    • EAL takes place on the ground. The interaction with the horse or horses is an important part of the EAL experience. The horse may represent an important person in the client’s life. The horse may also reflect what the person may be feeling. Through observation the client will receive feedback and information from the horses.

    • The work helps clients to gain a better understanding of the issues that they are facing as well as assist in finding solutions. As the client learns information from the horses the team will assist them in processing what the horse is showing them.

    • Equiteam practices EAGALA’s strict Code of Ethics and standards of practice.

  • The equine assisted learning is an experience that provides benefits to service members and their families with a hands-on engagement in the process. Participants and their families will have the opportunity to work directly with the horses creating a new experience each visit. In doing so the participants will have the opportunity to work through challenges that they are facing in their lives currently or with past experiences that they may benefit from processing in this safe space.
