NEW MEMBERS WANTED!!! – MEMBERSHIP DRIVE IN PROGRESS
Membership in the VFW Auxiliary of the New Freedom Post 7012 is now open to both men and women. Annual dues are less than $25/year, which help to support
Veterans’ and soldiers’ programs. Membership eligibility requires that the member be related to a close relative (such as spouse, grandparent, child, sibling or parent) who served in the military on foreign soil during war time. Activities of the Auxiliary support the troops, veterans, and the community, and promote American patriotism.
There are many benefits to being an Auxiliary member, such as having access to all VFW Posts’ restaurants and canteens which offers good food at reasonable prices. Other benefits offered by the national organization include discounted travel and vacation rentals, cancer grants, and various types of discounted insurance coverage. More information about the organization and benefits can be obtained at http://www.vfwauxiliary.org/. Contact Janet Locher at 717-968-8505 for information about joining the Auxiliary at VFW Post 7012 in New Freedom.
Ethel Nonemaker Scholarship
Made possible by a generous bequeath by a deceased member, the Auxiliary established the Ethel Nonemaker Scholarship, named in her honor. We award a $500 scholarship through the “Dollars for Scholars” program to a Susquehannock High School Senior Graduate that will be continuing their education. We will continue awarding future scholarships to students with military connections that are furthering their education.
After one year of continuous membership, members who must undergo chemotherapy and other procedures to fight cancer are eligible for a $550 grant to help cover expenses. There is a limit of two grants per lifetime and the grants must be at least 12 months apart. This is not related to the Cancer Insurance offered by some Auxiliaries.
Members needing a Cancer Grant application may obtain one by any of the following methods:
1) Go to the Web Link for Cancer Grant: http://www.vfwauxiliary.org/benefits-page/cancer-grants/
2) Pick up the Cancer Grant application from the New Freedom Post 7012 or if no form available, call (717) 968-8505.
